Common Erosion Control Services We Provide

Hydromulch

Hydromulch is a heavy slurry of mulch, seed(s), fertilizer and tackifier, The heavy mulch will help retain moisture for longer.  Therefore, less watering is needed most of time and also helps prevent wash outs.

At A-1 Erosion Control we use the highest quality products.  It’s very rare that our hydromulch doesn’t grow per specifications and to our customers expectations.  If that is ever the case we will come back out and fix it.

Hydroseeding

This is a light slurry of mulch, seed(s), fertilizer and tackifier (usually just a few bags of mulch to make it green)  usually done in small areas “touch up or patches”  where there is growth there already.  Will not hold as much moisture as a higher quality hydromulch, but it has its place.

We use the highest quality products and our 25 plus years of experience leads to very few call backs of grass not growing. If customer is not happy with the work, we are a NO MESS company, we will fix it.

Straw Blowing / Dry Application

We use this usually on slopes and it helps hold moisture.  No other advantage, really.  Generally we recommend hydromulch would hold just as well and cost the customer less.

Sod

We offer many varieties of sod.  Though the most common and generally standard are Bermuda and St Augustine.  We can get any type from Tiff 419 used for sports fields (holds up to the intense traffic)  to zoysia or Celebration Bermuda- these are used for beautify more than standard sod.

We would normally recommend hydro mulch instead of sod due to the cost and turf health considerations. We would use sod if the owner is requesting sod around concrete, buildings or when they don’t want to wait for seed to establish.  Sod is also always required for St. Augustine as it is not sold in seed form.

Just about all other varieties of sod we can get and apply via hydromulch seeding.

Broadcast Seeding

Tractor with hopper, we load the seed into the hopper and spread.  Cheaper than hydromulch, would use mainly on flat areas where they would be little wash out. Would not recommend on slopes-  there is nothing on the area to help prevent wash outs.

Hand Seeding

This is done in very small areas were we can not get our trucks or tractors, we use hand seed applicators.  i.e. sidewalk, in between buildings etc.

Flexterra/ Promatrix

When slopes are usually 2;1 or less- meaning really steep.  Specs of a job usually call for this and it is applied in the same way as hydromulch.

Holds better than typical hydromulch-  less worry of washing out after heavy rain.  Long term protection during dormant season of Bermuda or other seeds that require warm weather.

Curlex

This is used to slow/prevent water runoff, usually used in ditched, slopes, outfalls, levees.  This material goes down first and helps seed stay in place.

It is installed by rolling it out and cutting it to fit an area, pin down with 6” – 12 “ sod anchors, depending on specs.  After the Curlex is secure, apply hydromulch as usual.

Fertilizing

Usually the fertilizer we apply is according to job specs.  However, we can recommend using special fertilizer after testing the soil

Daily, we use 15-15-15 fertilizer – (water soluble)  this is an all purpose blend of nitrogen, phosphorus, & potassium- all vital nutrients for plant health.

Also, we use hou-Actinite fertilizer.  It’s organic and applied using a dry method.  This is made out of biosolids and allows for a slow release.  Thereby reducing the risk of burning seeds and feeds the ground and supplies nutrients the soil maybe lacking,
